Day 12 - 36-ish mi: Jard-sur-Mer to Puyravault
Our host Madame Muriel at Residence Romaric was especially nice! Not only did she allow us to invade her gourmet kitchen to prepare our dinner but she let us takeover again to prepare a yummy breakfast which Pete cooked.
After taking our group photo, we went in search of the Velodyssee trail via the back roads of Jard-sur-mer.
Surprisingly a good portion of the Atlantic coast is protected forests with park access to the beaches. Much of the riding through this section is on hard packed trails that were up and down (jokingly referred to as "mostly flat"). We welcomed the shade early in the day but it was clear that storm clouds loomed ahed.
As we approached Tranche-sur-mer a rain shower gave way. We pedaled onto the next little village just as the rain was stopping. Most of the riders opted to stop for café and Ann bought cookies and almond croissants for the group.
Shortly after we stopped at Julie dans la Cuisine in L'Aiguillon which was the last restaurant on the route which turned out to be the best deal around! The 3-course menu was 14.90 Euro but the only remaining plat was steak au fries. Unfortunately most of the group had gorged on bakery items at the prior café stop and no longer had an appetite (note to self...listen to the Briefer!).
Our accommodations for the night were a few miles off the trail which required a short section on busy roads.
We made it to the lovely Au Clos des Templiers where we were informed there had been a mix up for the dinner plan. Fortunately pizza delivery came to the rescue!
